The investigations in the IPl spot-fixing case could get even bigger in the coming months with the Delhi Police believed to be seeking information on bookies nabbed in other IPl venues including Chhattisgarh.
Top police sources here have indicated that the investigators believe there is a "common thread" between the bookies operative in various States which could assist in deeper interrogation with those arrested during the current IPl series to seek information on suspected involvement of any other cricketer in the multi-million rupees betting deals.
"There is a feeling among the top police brass particularly in the States where the investigations in the current case of Rajasthan Royals cricketer S Sreesanth and his other teammate are underway that the police in IPl venues of other States could also join in to unearth an even deeper aspect of the betting menace," a senior police official told The Pioneer.
He said that the aspect of interrogating bookies currently under custody to know their network is a logical step towards finding involvement of any "prominent figures in the game" who could be further interrogated if there are any leads from questioning those who were nabbed during the previous months.
The bookies have an international network so a hard line of questioning could open floodgates to the scope of further investigation even in Chhattisgarh which hosted two IPl matches for the first time ever, on April 28 and May 1, the official commented.
"We have just got a feeler from the police in other States. It's just the beginning. It would be premature to offer any comment on the issue right now," the official added.
