MMI Narayana Multispecialty Hospital, Raipur on Friday organised an interactive session on ‘living with Parkinson’s Disease’ apart from other neurological disorders as a prelude to World Parkinson’s Day to be observed on Saturday. Patients along with their family members were present for an interactive programme with Dr HP Sinha — Consultant Neurologist. Parkinson’s disease is a movement disorder that is chronic and progressive, meaning that symptoms continue to worsen over time if not medically managed. However, if detected early, the destruction of brain cells can be managed with surgical intervention for treatment.
“This session is aimed at creating awareness about movement disorders and how people can work towards managing the condition”, said Dr H P Sinha, Consultant Neurologist at MMI Narayana Multispeciality Hospital Raipur. Speaking at the interactive programme, he said, “In majority of cases, symptoms start to appear after the age of 50.’’ The best way to address this condition is to visit the doctor at the earliest as soon as they notice any of the symptoms, which include; tremor of the hands, arms, legs or jaw, stiffness of limbs, slowness of movement or impaired balance, he said. Some of the awareness topics that were covered included ‘Movement Disorders’, diagnosis and manifestation of Parkinson’s Disease, its precautions and management. The doctor also spoke about Epilepsy and Migraine and their management.
