In view of the present national scenario and assurance from Union Minister for Health Dr Harsh Vardhan, agitating doctors affiliated to the Indian Medical Association have decided to call off their stir on Thursday.
Chhattisgarh chapter of the IMA had backed the agitation, impacting health services in the state.
In a statement, Dr Rakesh Gupta, President Hospital Board of the IMA, informed that their national-level protest and withdrawal of medical services across the country would be called off from Thursday.
All the local branches of the IMA had been intimated about the decision.
Notable, the protest was against the union government’s move to pass the NMC bill in parliament. The IMA was opposing the bill as it will allow the medical practitioners other than the MBBS to treat the patients in mixed- pathies, giving rise to quackeries. The new arrangement will hamper the quality of medical services, they claimed.
The bill also reserve 50% of the medical seats of private medical colleges for management quota which will ultimately make the medical education expensive, they further charged.
The bill according to IMA even allows quacks to treat the patients with allopathic modern medicines. This will certainly decrease the quality of treatment, they said.
