The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Raipur will be organising a three-day ‘Management Development Programme’ (MDP) on ‘Business Analytics Using Data Mining Techniques’ from April 9, 2015.
The course aims to sensitise managers about the use of business analytics and provide a hands-on experience for solving real time analytical issues. The programme will use a mix of lectures, group exercises such as case analyses and management games to fulfil its objectives. It will cover several topics like Geographical Mapping, Market Basket Analysis, Fraud Detection, Churn Analysis, Crime Mapping so on, an institute press release issued here on Tuesday stated.
Business Analytics has been one of the hottest sectors in the industry in recent years. It refers to various categories of analytical approaches for modelling different business situations and arriving at solutions and strategies for optimal decision-making in marketing, finance, operations, organisational behaviour and other managerial processes, it stated.
Thus, Business Analytics today refers to different approaches for modelling and arriving at assessing and predicting risk, predicting market preferences, project feasibility, customer segmentation, inherent and underlying dimensions in consumer preferences, factors leading to probability of purchase, preferred segments in financial and credit card industry, probability of attrition in large organizations and the likes.
In a short period of three days, participants will learn working with various Statistical Software such as SPSS, R and Rapid Miner. Participants will also do a short presentation on the real world application of Business Analytics in their own domain. The program is offered for Senior and Middle level Managers of different Functional and interdisciplinary areas.
The program assumes that participants have some flair for analytics. A prior knowledge of any statistics software is not necessary, says Prof Sumeet Gupta, one of the Program Directors.

Faculties from IIM Raipur Prof. Manojit Chattopadhyay and Prof. Sumeet Gupta are the programme coordinators. Prof. Sumeet Gupta is a PhD (Information Systems) and MBA from National University of Singapore, Singapore and has more than 10 years of experience. Prof. Manojit Chattopadhyay is an MBA (Systems) and PhD (Systems Management) from University of Calcutta and has more than 15 years of industry experience.
