IIM Raipur is going to organise ‘ICHl2013’ International Conference on Humanitarian logistics on 2nd & 3rd December, 2013 at Hotel VW Canyon, Raipur. The conference shall be attended by large number of delegates from India and abroad including policy makers, Government officials, industry captains, leading thinkers, eminent professors and researchers. Governor Shekhar Dutt would grace the occasion on the opening day.
Prof BS Sahay, Director, IIM Raipur & Co-Chair of the Conference informed that the conference aims to enhance the awareness on critical issues in humanitarian logistics and to provide a platform for deliberations and cross-fertilisation of ideas, experiences and best practices adopted in the world. The Conference features four power packed panel discussions, six technical sessions and six plenary sessions.
Officials further informed that the worldwide rise in natural and man-made disasters in the last two decades has questioned the very preparedness to cope with them. Although less frequent, such disasters occur with high impact and completely disrupt the daily lives of people and result in huge loss of lives and capital to the extent of wiping out the entire city.
Countries world over have been developing mechanisms to deal with such disasters but the previous disasters reveal that the existing preparedness is far below normal. Particularly, in emerging economies like India, such preparedness is hardly given any preference. The key to cope up with such disasters in the logistics, termed as Humanitarian logistics organised to make the lifesaving drugs, food products, and other necessary amenities available to the affected people.
The time has come whereby policy makers, Government bodies, academia, and practitioners should meet on a common platform to deliberate on this key and relevant issue of Humanitarian logistics. ICHl2013 is the first conference organized in India to address this key issue of Humanitarian logistics and will provide a platform for various stakeholders to deliberate on the same.
