The proposed Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, Raipur (IHM) could not be made functional even after 13 years of its inception and spending Rs 24 crore in salaries and building construction.

This was stated by tourism minister Tamradwaj Sahu in a written reply on the third day of monsoon session of Chhattisgarh Assembly.

JCC (J) member Ajit Jogi wanted to know from the minister how many students had passed out from the institute in 2018-19, what was the total expenditure incurred in    building construction and   purchase of equipment, set-up and others activities and how much was spent till December 2018 for salary and allowances.

Sahu in reply admitted that though the institute was registered in the year 2006 under Registrar, Firm and Society, Raipur, till date the academic session could not be commenced.

A total of Rs 20,71,71,351 was spent in the construction of building and an amount of Rs 3,31,69,528 was spent in salaries and allowances. No laboratory equipment had been installed. Raising supplementary question, Jogi said it was shameful that even after spending Rs 23 crore on building and teacher and director for last 13 years, not a single candidate has passed out of the institute. “It is a crime. Who should be held responsible for it and against whom action will be taken,” he asked.
