IEDs hidden in effigies detected and defused

Staff Reporter

Two powerful improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that were hidden in effigies were detected and defused by security forces in the insurgency-hit Dantewada district, police said here on Monday.

“Police had received information that two effigies with suspected IEDs were detected in Kondasavli village under Aranpur police station limits. Bomb disposal squad (BDS) immediately reached the spot and defused the bombs,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Dantewada Abhishek Pallav said.

The IEDs weighing 2 kg and 5 kg each were detected by security forces.

This is for the first time that Maoists have used effigy for hiding IEDs. It is very dangerous because children or common people could touch these effigies out of curiosity leading to fatal incident, the SP said.

Notably, Maoists will observe their Shahidi Saptah (martyr’s week) from July 28 to August 3.
