Known thinker Indresh Kumar on Sunday called upon the tribal youths to identify their roots and assert their identity.

“In our socio-cultural set up, nature is considered as the God and tribal are near to the nature, and hence, they are close to the God. Those near the God are in no way inferior to others,” he said. He was speaking as the chief guest of the concluding day ceremony of the two-day national workshop titled ‘Janjatiya Yuva Goth (Tribal Youths’ Deliberations)’ at Kushabhau Thakre University of Journalism and Mass Communication, organised jointly by the university in association with Tribal Welfare Department, Government of Chhattisgarh.

More than 150 youths of different tribes from Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh participated in the workshop. Kumar also called upon the youths to constitute ‘Apravasi Gramin Samuh’ by joining youths from their villages who have migrated to different parts of the country in search of work. He further suggested that tribal community should undertake small community works like health camps, sanitation drives, building of bath rooms for girls and boys in village school etc.

Indresh Kumar said the constitution of the village community would ensure that youths not only adopt their own village but also will be attached to their roots and culture. Prof. Jayalaxmi Thakur, former Vice Chancellor, Bastar University, who was the special guest on the occasion, also urged the youths to become vocal and speak their mind on issues relating to their community with vigour so that everybody should take cognisance of them. He asked the youths to set their objective clear and then work to achieve that objective with complete dedication.

Stressing that education is the main driver for development, she asked the youths to spread education in their community. Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi, Vice Chancellor, Kushabhau Thakre University of Journalism and Mass Communication who presided over the function, said the deliberations at the two-day workshop has certainly given some food for thought to the participants which would help them in their future endeavors.

Stressing that tribal community should asset themselves in every field of life, Dr. Joshi said time has arrived when tribal people should not be dependent on Government schemes.
