Hundreds of agriculture students demanding three chances for appearing in back exam like engineering students scuffled with police and staged protest in support of their demand. However, when they were marching to the Governor House, they were arrested by the police.
According to sources, hundreds of students of agriculture stream gathered at Dharna Sthal located near Budha Talab under the leadership of State vice president of Youth Congress Sanjay Shukla around Monday noon. They staged protest and shouted slogans in support of their demand for nearly two hours there. Around 2 pm they took out a rally under the leadership of former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi and was marching towards governor house to submit a memorandum to the governor when they were confronted by police near the Sapre School.
Here too the students continued slogan shouting in support of their demand alleging that even after paying hefty fees they are deprived of chances to clear their exam by denying three chances of appearing in back exam even if the same facility is provided to engineering students. Present system of single chance of back exam was not fair and satisfactory, the students alleged.
They said that if in next 48 hours any decision is not taken on this issue then they would demonstrate in front of the Agriculture University. Sanjeev Shukla, Pradeep Sahu, Shailendra Shrivastava, Manish Dubey and other were prominent among the protesters. When the students tried to force their way to the Raj Bhawan, they were arrested by the police which also released them after some time. Speaking on this occasion, former CM Jogi termed the agriculture students demand genuine and asked the State administration to accept the same adding that if the BJP Government fails, the Congress, if voted to power, will fulfill their demand.
