Following a gun battle with Maoists, security personnel have recovered arms and explosives in Narayanpur district of Bastar, police said on Saturday.

“A joint team of District Force (DF) and Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) undertaking combing operation in the region received a tip-off about presence of rebels in a village after which the contingent was mobilised there. Sensing presence of security personnel, insurgents hiding in village Bakulwahi opened indiscriminate fire on security personnel by taking cover behind cattle,” said Narayanpur Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) O P Sharma.

He further informed that following the firing by ultras, security personnel launched a retaliatory action which forced the Naxals to flee the spot. A cow was killed and an elderly villager was injured by the firing rebels.  “The victim was rushed to Narayanpur district hospital for preliminary treatment and later shifted to Jagdalpur,” Sharma said.

While undertaking search at encounter site, security personnel have recovered two firearms, live cartridges of 315 bore rifle, 12 bore and Self-loaded Rifle (SlR), an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), uniforms, 12 batteries and other daily utility items, said Sharma, adding that security personnel have also recovered banner, posters and Naxal literature from the spot.
