Chhattisgarh on Sunday set another record by bagging the first position in having the highest number of paddy selling farmers in the country.
According to the Union government, among the 1,18,17,242 farmers in India who have sold paddy at Minimum Support Price this year, 22,93,761 were from Chhattisgarh. This data is for the current Kharif Marketing Season.
An official communiqué quoted Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel as saying that the achievement was a result of farm-friendly policies in the state.
The Nyay schemes had boosted farm work in the state as farmers were getting better price for their produce, it said.
As against a target of procuring 110 lakh tonnes of paddy, the state has procured 1,03,70,243 tonnes. The procurement process ends on January 31.
Earlier, Chhattisgarh was declared the second largest contributor of paddy to the Central pool.
