The Steel Melting Shop-2 of Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) has achieved yet another landmark on December 24 by producing 51 Rail bloom heats (6020 Tonnes) in single day, a company press release informed on Wednesday.
It is the highest ever Rail Bloom production in a single day since inception of the shop. The previous best production in a single day was of 46 Bloom Heats on 19th June 2018. It was a historic day for SMS-2 as Bloom Caster-5 and Combi Casters- 3 and 4 were all in operation simultaneously for the whole day.
BSP CEO AK Rath personally congratulated the entire SMS 2 team for the record production of rail blooms.
At a gathering of members of the SMS 2, Rail and Strl Mill and Universal Rail Mill teams in RSM Conference Hall, Rath said this performance is a moral booster for the Plant to enhance rail production.
Expressing confidence in the competence of BSP's Team Bhilai, he urged all to consider the challenge of meeting the desired target for supply of rails to Indian Railways as an opportunity to prove all their might and skill.
The CEO urged all shops and agencies to extend all support and cooperation for the Plant to meet desired levels of rail production.
In view of the increasing demand of Rails, Slab Caster-3 in SMS 2 was converted to Combi Caster to increase Rail bloom production. And now after the joining of SMS-3 efforts are being made to stabilise and augment production of blooms to the desired level at the earliest.
With this conversion and other initiatives of the management, now SMS-2 & SMS-3 will be able to cater to the increasing demands of RSM and URM which in turn will help in fulfilling the demand of Indian Railways and also achieve the production targets for FY 19.
Both SMS-2 and also SMS-3 are committed to tap every opportunity and perform towards fulfilling the requirement of rail blooms.
The record production in SMS 2 could be realized under the guidance of P.K.Dash, ED (Works) and the encouragement and inspiration provided by A.K.Rath, CEO, Rajeev Sehgal, GM (SMS-II & III) has acclaimed and lauded the team work, commitment and synergy shown by all concerned sections in achieving this highest Bloom Production of 51 Heats in a single day, the company informed.
