The Chhattisgarh Health Department on Tuesday issued an advisory regarding spread of diseases with the onset of monsoon.
An official communiqué said the rapid changes in temperature in the early monsoon days becomes a challenge for health in many ways. Monsoon season is a favourable period for breeding of mosquitoes, the communiqué said.
The Director of Epidemic Control, Dr. Subhash Mishra, said: “The risks of mosquito borne diseases like dengue and malaria greatly increase during monsoon. These diseases can be fatal upon reaching serious stages.
"To prevent them, mosquitoes should be stopped from flourishing. Water logging near homes should not be allowed and mosquito nets should be used while sleeping.
“One should consult doctors at the nearest health centers on experiencing symptoms like fever, vomiting and diaorrhea.”
He added: “This weather can also be the cause of the common cold and flu. People with weak immune systems are at more risk. Consume fresh fruits and vegetables to strengthen the immune system." People were asked to be extra cautious regarding Hepatitis-A, dengue and typhoid. Hepatitis-A is caused by consuming contaminated food and water. Contaminated water is the primary cause for typhoid.
Boiling drinking water is recommended. Typhoid can also be caused by mosquito bites, the communiqué said.
