HC denies relief to Ajit Jogi, asks him to appear before HPC

Staff Reporter

Former chief minister and Janta Congress Chhattisgarh-J supremo Ajit Jogi got no relief from the high court during a hearing on a case pertaining to his caste on Wednesday.

Jogi had approached the High Court seeking exemption from personal appearance before the HPC, but the court didn’t grant him the relief he had sought.

The division bench of Chief Justice Ramchandra Menon and Justice P.P. Sahu had ruled that Jogi had to appear before the High Power Committee (HPC) constituted by the state government to decide about the matter of his caste with all documentary proofs.

Citing that the HPC is a constitutional body, the court instructed Jogi to cooperate with it and provide them the documents and proofs so that his caste could be decided.

Party’s state president Amit Jogi however said the court had instructed that if the HPC did not work as per provisions of the law they might approach the court for getting protection into the matter.
