A hardcore Maoist carrying cash reward of Rs5,000 on his head, was arrested during a search operation from insurgency-hit Bijapur district of Bastar, police said on Monday. The arrest was made following a precise tip-off from Old Bus Stand locality in Bijapur town, Superintendent of Police (SP), Bijapur, Kl Dhruv said, adding, the ultra was identified as Maade Chandraiya (35) resident of Sankanpalli.
We had received specific inputs that Chandraiya was in town and accordingly, a police team raided the Old Bus Stand locality. Upon seeing the police personnel, the rebel tried to escape from the spot but was nabbed after a short chase, he said. He was involved in the murder of a police constable of Madded police station of Bijapur in 2010 and was carrying a reward of Rs5,000 on his head, the SP said.
