The Chhattisgarh government has decided to buy bamboo tree guards made by women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) for Rs 450 a piece in a step aimed at financially empowering them.
The Commissioner of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) has sent a letter in this regard to District Collectors, an official statement said on Tuesday.
It was made clear that the tree guards should be of the same size and criteria as mentioned by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests.
The Commissioner has told government offices to give priority to the women SHGs. The earlier buying price for a tree guard was Rs 350.
