Govt overlooking basic infra in schools: NSUI

Staff Reporter

The National Students Union of India (NSUI) has accused the State Government of overlooking the basic problems faced by students in schools like lack of toilet for girls, seeping ceilings, no blackboards, no facility of drinking water etc.

In a symbolic protest at Fire Brigade Square, the NSUI activists called the ‘Shala Pravesh Utsav’ being organised by the State Government a political gimmick  and demanded the Chief Minister and the School Education Minister to conduct surprise inspections of schools to know the problems faced by the students.

NSUI vice-president Akash Sharma and district vice-president Bhavesh Shukla led the protest. The NSUI activists shouted slogans against the Chief Minister. They said that instead of organising such programmes, the Chief Minister and Education Minister should have taken stock of the facilities available in the schools.

It is due to poor facilities in Government schools, a large number of students do not go to school, they alleged. The Ministers should take prompt action to improve the facilities at schools in the interest of poor students. This will not only help in providing quality of education but also help in all round development of poor students, they said.

The ‘Shala Pravesh Utsav’ should have been organised after removing all shortcomings in schools. They threatened that NSUI will take initiative if government fails to solve the problems faced by students in schools.
