The Government doctors of the State on Monday sported black ribbons during work to lodge protest against the action taken on doctors in the Bilaspur botched sterilisation camp incident.
The medicos have threatened to intensify their protest and to go for mass leave on November 20 if the case registered against the doctors in not expunged and the doctors are not reinstated.
President of State Medical Officers Association, Dr Pramod Tiwari and General Secretary Dr KK Sori said that the action taken against the doctors is wrong as the accused doctors have not been given any opportunity to put their point forward.
The doctors are protesting with black ribbons at work and thereafter intensify the protest. The Association also threatened to submit mass resignations if their demands are not met by November 28.
Dr Tiwari said that the government decision was impulsive and the primary revelations in the incident have proved that the deaths occurred due to substandard and contaminated drugs.
In addition to this the action against the doctors was also against the guidelines of the Supreme Court according to which no action should be initiated against doctors without the opinion and report of an Experts’ committee.
It is worth mentioning that laparoscopic surgeon Dr RK Gupta and CMHO of Bilaspur Dr RK Bhange have been terminated while two other doctors have been suspended following deaths of 13 women in sterilization camps organized in Bilaspur district on November 8 and 10.
FIR was lodged against Dr Gupta and he was arrested in the case. Dr Gupta was feted by the government earlier this year for extraordinary performance.
