A total of 453 fishermen were benefited through a Fisheries Department scheme for providing financial aid to fishermen for purchasing boats and fishing nets during 2013-14.
Under this scheme, 250 fishermen were benefited in year 2011-12 and 553 were benefited in year 2012-13, officials informed. This scheme was started in year 2007-08. Under this scheme, boats and fishing nets worth Rs ,7000 are distributed to fishermen.
Fisheries Department officials informed that the Department may issue entire amount of Rs 10,000 to fishermen for the sole purpose of purchasing fishing net only.
