People who have tested positive for Covid-19 will be categorized on the basis of their symptoms, Chhattisgarh Health Minister T.S. Singh Deo said on Sunday, while tweeting a new discharge policy decided by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

“As we look forward to strengthening our stance in the fight against Covid, ICMR has laid a plan for optimal use of our medical resources. The patients who have tested positive shall be categorized on the basis of their symptoms.”

According to the ICMR's new plan, patients who are asymptotic or have mild symptoms will be kept in facilities for 10 days from the first display of symptoms and will be advised self-quarantine for seven days at their residence post discharge.

No RT-PCR testing is required in case there is no fever for three consecutive days, the Minister said.

Patients with more serious issues like fever for more than three consecutive days and needing oxygen therapy will be discharged only after the resolution of clinical symptoms.

Also, when they are able to maintain oxygen saturation for three consecutive days. They will not require the RT-PCR test again before discharge. They too will have to be in home isolation at least for seven days.

Serious patients will be discharged only after full clinical recovery. These patients will have to undergo RT-PCR test after resolution of their symptoms, Singh Deo tweeted.
