Four-year-old boy gets new lease of life

Staff Reporter

lakshya is the only son of Rajendra Jain and is apple of his parents’ eyes. lakshya’s parents believe him to be the answer of their prayers and wishes.

lakshya hadn’t yet crossed the age of two when his parents noticed that he was not as active as the other children of his age. His body weight was also less than normal. After medical tests, it was found that lakshya had a cardiac defect (a hole in the heart) which can be repaired through operation.Rajendra’s worries knew no bound at that moment. He runs a rented hardware shop and lives in a rented house. His income was hardly enough to meet the basic needs of his family.

In such a situation, Rajendra couldn’t find a way to arrange money for his only son’s operation.People suggested him to visit Kerala or Hyderabad for lakshya's operation. Generally, the cardiac surgery itself costs around Rs2-3 lakh while travelling and accommodation expenses are additional. Their hopes had almost shattered. But then Rajendra saw an advertisement of ‘Mukhyamantri Bal Hriday Suraksha Yojana’ in newspaper.

At first he thought such Government schemes are meant for BPl families only or for welfare of SC/ST people. But then he found detailed information about the scheme and came to know that people of general category may also apply for it.Rajendra couldn’t believe that the process of availing this scheme is so simple and convenient. All he had to do was to fill a form and get the signature of corporator/tehsildar/CMO. On submission of form, he was told that as soon as the date of lakshya’s operation is finalised, he would be informed.

After a month-and-a-half lakshya’s operation was scheduled. Earlier, they were advised to take lakshya to Hyderabad. But then expert surgeon from Hyderabad came to Ramakrishna Care Hospital in Raipur and lakshya's cardiac surgery was accomplished successfully. The entire  medical expenses of the surgery were borne by State Government.Presently, lakshya is four years old and is all healthy and active. His mother Geetanjali Jain said that they are really happy to see their child hale and hearty and normal.

Rajendra and Geetanjali shared their experience with a number of people in their family and neighbourhood, after which several people in need have availed the scheme.
