Continuous abrasion of bamboos due to strong wind triggered fire at Nariara village where four hutments were gutted under jurisdiction of Arang Police Station, Raipur district on Sunday. The fire incident took place at around 3 p.m. Before the fire tenders could reach the incident site, the hutments had turned into ashes.

Station House Officer Arang Bodhan Ram Sahu informed that huts of Sushila Bai, Bhagchand, Sahdeo and one other villager were gutted in fire on Sunday afternoon. “The abrasion of bamboos caused the fire which took alarming proportions as the roofs of hutments of the victim families were made by hay heaps”, he said.

Within an hour, the fire had incinerated all the domestic appliances and stored food grains in all the huts. It was a natural disaster. The police had registered the first information report.

A report would be forwarded to Tehsil office so that the affected families could be provided compensation as per norms, the official said.
