Food Minister Baghel for action on substandard chickpea, jaggery

Staff Reporter

Chhattisgarh Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dayaldas Baghel on Monday told officials to take stern action against fair price shops in tribal-dominated Bastar and Surguja regions which are reportedly distributing substandard chickpea and jaggery.

While taking a review meeting on the public distribution system, the Minister also expressed concern over distribution of below standard rice by the fair price shops.

While inspecting the quality of the food grains, the officials should ensure that they fulfill the quality standards set by the state government, he said.

The state government will in no way compromise on the quality of food grains distrusted under PDS, he said.

The Minister also asked the officials to ensure that stocks of rice, sugar, chickpea and salt were stored at the fair price shops in a prescribed timeframe set by the government.  This is essential for timely distribution of ration, he said.
