Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Dharamlal Kaushik has said that folk festivals provide a boost to the folk traditions besides attracting tourists.

He was addressing participants of the concluding day of three-day ‘Malhar Mahotsava’ in the historic city of Malhar on Saturday. He said that folk programmes help in bringing people of different regions together which enhances feeling of brotherhood.

The work on preserving the historical monuments by the State Government had been going on since the formation of Chhattisgarh State. Folk artists display their performance in the programmes which is a matter of pride for Chhattisgarh, the Assembly Speaker said.

Member, Board of Secondary Education, Chhattisgarh, Dr Prafulla Sharma said that ‘Malhar Mahotsava’ is a significant effort to connect  various traditions. ‘We need to protect all ancient values. We also need to preserve our family traditions,’ he added.
