Staff Reporter

As rising inflow of passengers brings more revenue, the Railway administration has decided to build a ‘Foot Over Bridge’ (FOB) along with additional platforms at Jagdalpur Railway Station.

Apart from Visakhapatnam-Kirandul passenger train, three express trains now have stoppage at Jagdalpur. After constant demands from local residents, the Railway administration has finally decided to build the FOB which is expected to complete by March 2014.

Station manager MR Nayak said, “Platform number one and two are on the last stage of construction and we will soon begin the construction of the foot overbridge,” The long-pending upgradation of Jagdalpur Railway Station came recently when it was upgraded from ‘E’ grade station to ‘B’ grade station. The demand to make the station more passenger-friendly rose soon after it.

Heerakhand Express, Samleshwari Express, Durg-Jagdalpur Express and Visakhapatnam-Kirandul Express have doubled the passenger traffic at Jagdalpur Railway Station. The increased inflow has made the Railways richer and thus the demands from passengers for better amenities have grown.

The construction of platform number two is in the last stage and nearing completion. The upcoming foot overbridge will join platform number two to platform number one.

The Jagdalpur railway station has long been one of the stations with least railway traffic in the State. However, the situation in terms of passenger inflow, number of trains and amenities available are changing after it was upgraded from ‘E’ grade station to ‘B’ grade station.
