In all, five persons have been detained in connection with shooting a former corporator in Purani Basti area on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. Some old rivalry and dispute on property is being said as the reason of firing, Superintendent of Police OP Pal said.
Meanwhile, the condition of victim Rajesh Singh (48) resident of Purani Basti was reportedly serious but stable. He was shot at by the accused Radhe Hari Singh resident of Kushalpur, Subhas Singh resident of Purani Basti and Ramkumar Dewangan of Azaad Chowk, SP said.
According to police the accused had shot Rajesh Singh on late Saturday evening near his home when the victim had returned home after attending a funeral procession.
“Four rounds were fired by accused on Rajesh Singh which hit Rajesh at leg, ribs and near head,” SP said adding after shooting Rajesh the accused ran away on a four wheeler. Police have recovered the empty bullet shells from the spot.
Meanwhile, police sources informed that apart from these three, two more persons have been arrested in connection with the shooting incident whose identities have not been disclosed.
