A person has been reported to have tested positive for H1N1 virus ( Swine flu) in the city. The patient is undergoing treatment in a private hospital and his condition is critical, but stable, Director, Health Services, R Prasanna informed on Saturday while confirming the first case of a person testing positive for Swine flu in Raipur city.

“A private laboratory report has indicated that he is suffering from Swine flu; however, we have now sent samples to the National laboratory in New Delhi for further confirmation,” Prasanna told The Pioneer. According to him, the person admitted in the hospital is responding to drugs and there is no need of shifting him to any other city for treatment.

"We have medicines for dealing with Swine flu; however, we ( the Government) have started the process for procurement of more drugs used in treatment of Swine flu,"  Prasanna maintained. He said that a medical team is examining the health of family members and neighbours of the person admitted in the hospital. If anyone is diagnosed with Swine flu symptoms, then they would be immediately isolated and admitted in a hospital, he said.

Meanwhile, other districts of the State have been alerted following the detection of Swine flu in a patient in Raipur city. The CMOs, district hospitals and colleges affiliated with medical colleges have been alerted. The civic bodies have been directed to maintain cleanliness and keep medicine stock ready along with masks, officials stated.
