The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Department officials on Monday carried out surprise inspections at several medical stores operational in the city.

On the occasion, the FDA officials inspected medicine stock, purchasing and selling of psychotropic drugs, expired medicine stocks and others.

With a view to checking sale of psychotropic drugs, a FDA team conducted surprise checks at various medical stores. Meanwhile, officials gave specific instructions regarding selling of psychotropic drugs and also instructed them to keep records related to selling of such drugs. Moreover, officials also suggested chemists to keep limited stocks of these drugs.

Similarly, officials have instructed the staff of medical stores to inculcate the practice of keeping expired drugs separated from routine stocks.

During the course of checking, the officials closely reviewed the stock register of medical stores and matched it with available stocks, particularly those of psychotropic and expired drugs.

The Department carried out routine inspection of medical stores in the city, said Drug Inspector Sanjay Netam, adding that earlier, it was done in the month of January this year.
