The fate of 797 candidates contesting civic body elections across Chhattisgarh will be decided on Sunday. Out of the 797 candidates, 101 are in the fray for the post of Mayor in 10 Municipal Corporations while 209 are contesting for the post of Municipality President. Similarly, fate of 487 candidates who are in the race for Nagar Panchayat President will also be decided on Sunday. The counting of votes for the local bodies polls will be held on Sunday at all the concerned headquarters of civic bodies across Chhattisgarh, officials stated.
The State Election Commission has banned the victory processions and thanks giving rallies in all the districts to maintain peace. The Commission has issued an order to the District Collectors and district electoral officers to strictly implement the harmony of the area. The local bodies polls were held in two phases in the State. In the first phase, polling was held for 51 Nagar Paalikas on December 29. In the second phase, polling was held on December 31 for the 103 local bodies.
