Staff Reporter

A much-anticipated moment finally arrived in the lives of villagers of Bastar’s far-flung Naxalite-hit Rengapar when electric light bulbs erased the darkness on the 75th Indian Independence Day on Sunday. Villagers of Rengapar in Sukma district were overjoyed with the transformation in their lives. After waiting for years, finally they got freedom from darkness, thanks to the electric supply.Maoists had opposed the electrification work.

In 2006 the government tried to electrify the village but the Maoists damaged the electrical poles.

Local MLA Kawasi Lakhma's determination finally brought light into Rengapar.

A total of 7.8 km of 11 KV line and 2.3 km of LT lines were laid for the electrification, an official statement said. As many as 30 families would benefit.
