Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel in a statement on Monday categorically rejected the exit poll results aired by various television news channels on Sunday, terming the findings ‘dubious’.
Talking to a section of media persons, Baghel said the people of Chhattisgarh had proved the exit poll results wrong in recently concluded assembly polls in the state.
Exit polls had then predicted a clean sweep for the Bharatiya Janata Party, but ultimately it was Congress which formed the government with more than a two-third majority in the state.
“The survey agencies does a random sample survey and come to a conclusion but on my opinion the results would be different”, remarked Baghel.
“It is my strong belief that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) would form the next government at the Centre clinching more than 300 seats. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on the other hand would be restricted within 200 seats.”
Notably, ahead of the announcement of 2018 assembly election results in Chhattisgarh in December last year, 10 out of the 11 exit poll surveys had predicted that BJP led NDA was going to form a government in the state with a comfortable majority.
