More than a dozen elderly would meet each other at an introductory convention on Sunday in the city with hopes of finding a life partner.
“Everyone wants to be around someone with whom they can share their sorrows and joy. We are getting a lot of queries from elderly persons which indicates that the society is changing,” said founder of the Forum KP Saxena. The Senior Citizens Welfare Forum is holding the introductory convention at Vrindavan Hall, Civil lines on Sunday from 10.30 am where widows, widowers or unmarried above 40 years of age could meet each other. Thereafter, they could opt for either a live-in relationship or marriage with mutual agreement.
Earlier, the elderly persons felt helpless and had no option or support. But we were willing to provide a platform where they could meet new people, make friends and find a mate, Saxena said. A similar convention was conducted by the forum last year in Nashik where 25 elderly people participated, out of which six found themselves a match.
“Two-third of our lives is spent running behind career and children. But if because of some reason one has lost his or her partner, I believe that they must not drag it alone and find a partner instead,” said Organiser of the convention Manik lal Bachchani.
