Director of Ashoka Hospital, Raipur, Dr A Suresh Kumar and his team successfully performed the procedure of Cytoplasmic Transfer on March 26 2015 at Ashoka Hospital, Raipur in two such cases. “Cytoplasmic Transfer is a leap forward in the evolution of assisted reproduction techniques”, Dr Kumar said said.
The team conducted ovum pick-up on March 26 from various patients. After close observation it was found that ovum of some patients were of poor quality. This was conveyed to them, but they expressed to use their own ovum. The Hospital’s doctors team has a discussion for solving this problem.
After discussion and counselling it was decided to go for Cytoplasmic Transfer to improve the fertility of the ovum. Accordingly on March 26, Ashoka Hospital’s specialist doctors’ team under the experienced guidance of Dr A Suresh Kumar, Dr Ratna Agrawal, Dr PSR Murth and Dr Sanjay N Patil the Cytoplasmic Transfer procedure was carried out successfully. In the first case – the team got “2” eggs of mother, out of them one was good egg and another was bad egg. ‘We had pinched a bit of Cytoplasm from the good one with micro manipulator and injected into the bad egg. On March 27 when we saw through microscope both were found to be nicely fertilized’’, Dr Kumar said.
In second case that was of person aged 42 years, we got four eggs out of them “2” were good and two were bad eggs. We did similar procedure what we did in case no 1 and found successful fertilization of “4” eggs. This treatment is very good in cases of poor responders; aged lady like more than 35 years; certain mitochondrial disease causing repeated abortion, he said.
This is new milestone for Central India as well as State of Chhattisgarh State in Infertility and Test Tube Baby management, he said. There are some cases in Infertility and Test Tube Baby Management when we come across certain eggs are good and certain eggs are bad in morphology of the eggs due to some reasons or other particularly, when the age of lady is more than 35 years, Dr Kumar said. In these cases donor egg treatment is necessary. But there are some couples who do not like donor eggs. In such cases Cytoplasmic Transfer autologus solves this treatment problem, he said.
After egg pick up we classify good and bad eggs. Than we take a bit of power from power of mitochondria. Cytoplasm from the good one without disturbing the genetic makeup of the good egg and transfer that bit i.e. cytoplasm to bad eggs and make both good for fertilization. This is called as Cytoplasmic Transfer Treatment, Dr Kumar said.
Which is one step addition to IVF Treatment. This is a breakthrough treatment of IVF technology in Central India and Chhattisgarh State and credit goes to Chhattisgarh State being 2nd case of Cytoplasmic Transfer treatment.
