Staff Reporter

The Chief Surgeon-cum-Chief Hospital Superintendent of the District Hospital Baikunthpur in Korea district in Chhattisgarh on Sunday denied the death of any new born due to burn injury in the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU).

Denying social media reports, Dr Sunil Kumar Gupta stated that the news regarding the infant receiving burns at the SNCU was completely wrong and baseless. The child is in fact alive.

He said baby Rajkumari Netam was delivered on January 14 at the Primary Health Centre, Mansukh.

As the baby was born premature (32 weeks), it weighed just 1.4 kg. As the delivery had occurred in an unusual mode, there were swelling and bruises on the face. Such a newborn lasts only a day or two. The child was brought to the district hospital and put on a warmer and phototherapy machine of SNCU. The treatment is underway. The infant is safe.
