Dissolving co-op committees undemocratic: Ashok Bajaj

Staff Reporter

Chhattisgarh BJP's Cooperative Cell convener Ashok Bajaj on Wednesday alleged that the state    government under the garb of reorganising primary committees, is undemocratically dissolving the elected boards. The intention of the government is totally against the  constitution.

Bajaj in a statement pointed out in 2011 during the tenure of Dr Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister, through 97th amendment of the   constitution, tenure of board of   cooperative committees was fixed.

But it is most unfortunate that the Congress government in the state itself is not following the provisions formulated during the UPA government, the BJP leader said.

He added that most committees’ election was held in July 2017, it means three more years of their  tenure is still remaining.  Elections of a few other committees were held six months ago. State government cannot go against the constitution. The state government has power under Cooperative Society Act 1960 section 16c where reorganization scheme can be made.

Bajaj alleged that the state government is using this section by misinterpreting it and dissolving the elected director board. As the whole board is elected so their dismissal is undemocratic.

Citing example, he said after  re-organisation of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh out of 320 MLAs, 90 sitting MLAs constituted the state assembly. Similarly, all the key organizations was re-organised and the elected boards were not dissolved. State based elected members were made the directors of the boards.
