The Chhattisgarh government has called for continuous monitoring of pure drinking water supply during monsoon to prevent water-borne diseases.

Principal Secretary (Health) Dr Alok Shukla has issued a circular to all district Collectors on what needs to be done, Harsha Puranik, Joint Director (PR), told the media on Thursday.

The circular states that during monsoon maximum cases of vomiting, enteritis, typhoid and jaundice are reported across the state. As preventive measure, regular monitoring of the water supply has to be done, she said. Other steps include repairing damaged water pipelines, chlorination of tube wells used for drinking water and testing for coliform bacteria in the water supply system.

The Health Department and civic bodies have been told to take daily samples from the water treatment plant, storage tanks and individual houses for quality tests, she added.
