Diarrhoea kills 6 people, grips 6 villages

Staff Reporter

About half a dozen villages in Koyalibedi development block are under the grip of diarrhoea since a fortnight. The deadly disease has so far claimed life of at least six people, whereas more than 20 people are still suffering from the water-borne disease.

Meanwhile, the Health Department held a medical camp in the block to provide treatment to the people from remote villages. But because of insufficient medicines for the patients suffering from diarrhoea at the camp, the villagers having no other option, had to take their patients to nearby Koyalibedi hospital on tractor.

According to sources, for the last 20 days, Allparas, Pani Dobeer, Kesokodi and other villages of the block were under the grip of diarrhoea. But instead of taking initiatives to control the outbreak, the health department turned a blind eye to the situation. As a result, more than six people died in past 11 days.

According to the sources, Kanderam, Birobai, Ashwantin Usendi, Anil Yadav, Gandaye Bai and Ramlal Sukulu died of diarrhoea, whereas more than two dozen people are still struggling for their life.

However, the health department officials claimed that necessary steps have been taken in this regard and health machinery has been put in place to control the possible outbreak of diarrhoea.
