Diarrhoea spread its tentacles in the southernmost district of Chhattisgarh, Dantewada, claiming eight lives including six women whereas more than 40 people were battling for life. About a dozen of patients whose condition was serious have been admitted to district hospital for treatment.

According to sources, Diarrhoea broke out at village Maskel, located some 40 km away from the district headquarters claiming lives of eight villagers - Hidma, Mega Masa, Sula Guleti, Madse, Gula Sodhi, Sunita and Budhri. More than 40 people of the village were still suffering from diarrhoea, and out of them a dozen whose condition was serious were brought to Dantewada and admitted to district hospital for better treatment. Cause behind the outbreak of the disease was stated to be use of contaminated water and lack of treatment.

Meanwhile, District Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr AR Gota said that after receiving the information of outbreak of diarrhoea a team of doctors and health workers has reached the village and providing treatment to suffering people on war footing.

Notably, due to lack of treatment facility and snapping of link with district headquarters due to heavy rain, diarrhoea outbreak has been reported in a number of villages located in internal parts of Bastar which reportedly claimed several lives this season.
