Staff Reporter

Refuting the statement of Agriculture Minister Brijmohan Agrawal that the State farmers are prosperous and happy, former Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee President and farmers’ leader Dhanendra Sahu had said that the debt ridden farmers in the State are facing a tough time in the State.

In a statement, Dhanendra said Brijmohan was making false and baseless statement about the farmers of the state. The situation of farmers solely depending on agriculture is grim and they are even taking the drastic steps of committing suicide due to excessive burden of loan. Drought situation is prevailing in the state since past couple of years and then how the farmers in state could be happy, he said.

The state government has till date not distributed the drought relief and amount of crop insurance of the previous Kharif season. The farmers are desperately waiting for it, Dhanendra said. The Agriculture Minister should accept the moral responsibility for the same. The state BJP government should regret before the farmers of state, he added.

The suicide cases of farmers are certified in the records of National Crime Record Bureau and the Home Minister, Ramsevak Painkra himself had accepted in the state assembly that since session 2015-16 to Oct 20, 2017 around 1344 farmers have committed suicide in the State.
