After Deepak Karma was bitten by a venomous snake while sleeping in his house at Farspal village early last month, his mother and Congress MlA from Dantewada, Devti Karma has now been bitten by a venomous snake at her residence at Farspal village in Bastar around midnight on Thursday.

She has been admitted to Jagdalpur Medical College Hospital where her condition was stated to be stable.  Devti’s younger son Chhavindra Karma told The  Pioneer that his mother was initially rushed to Dantewada district hospital and given preliminary treatment. She was then shifted to the Medical College  at Jagdalpur.

“Despite being risky to travel at night in the insurgency hit area, we took her by road to Jagdalpur for treatment,” said Chhavindra. Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Maharani Hospital, Jagdalpur, Dr Vivek Joshi informed that Devti Karma has been bitten on her right leg near the knee. She was feeling uneasiness and treated by the doctors.

Her condition was stable. The family members expressed dissatisfaction against the government for not providing residence to the MlA at district headquarter in Jagdalpur despite repeated reminders. Devti Karma is wife of former leader of Opposition late Mahendra Karma who was killed in the Maoist ambush on the Congress convoy at Jeeram valley in Sukma district of Bastar on May 25 last year.
