Deer population is on the rise in Gariaband district which has now reached 250 at the Fingeshwar Forest Range, informed forest officials.
Sufficient numbers of wild boars have also been spotted in the forest.
Talking to The Pioneer, Ranger of Fingeshwar Forest Zone US Thakur said, “Earlier the population of deer and wild boars was low. The deployment of guards for monitoring the security and formation of forest committees as well as cooperation of nearby villagers has helped in increasing the number of deer including rare species among them.”
The initiative of deploying the guards was taken by the administration to keep an eye on the poachers.
