What I have achieved today is the result of hard work only. I see every day as a festival and celebrate it with all its intensity, said Deepa Malik, the recipient of Arjun award and many other awards at national and international level, at a workshop held at JSPl, Raigarh.

The 42-year-old Deepa, who is a victim of paralysis and moves on a wheelchair, has not only acquired the highest position, but also has become a paradigm before the whole world, with self-confidence and courage. Besides Arjun Award, the most prestigious award in the sports world, Deepa had registered her name in the limca Book of World Records for three times.

Sharing her experience at the workshop held at JSPl, Deepa said, “Human beings generally become discouraged when some exceptional accidents happen in their life, but there are some who fight the difficulties and come forward with renewed vigour towards success.”

Addressing the workshop, Deepa said how she could emerge victorious over all the difficulties with strong willpower.Officers and employees of all the departments participated in the workshop organized by the HR department of JSPl.

Deepa is paralytic down her waist. She is having 183 stitches on her shoulder and had undergone spinal surgery for three times. She said that she had to undergo non-pyogenic cyst operation at the age of six. In 1999 she has become victim of arachnoid cyst which led to spinal cord compression. Even after three major operations, doctors could not save her from paralytic attack, she added.

Deepa received Arjun award in the year 2012 from President Pranab Mukherjee. Earlier she had bagged 42 gold medals in swimming, shot-put, discus-throw and javelin throw in the national and international events.
