Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai lama on Tuesday meditated for 20 minutes at the “Chanda Dai caves” near Sirpur on the hills of Singhadhurva in the district.

The Nobel laureate, as per his wish made last year during the month of March on his visit to Chhattisgarh, was back at Sirpur to visit the caves this time round. This is his second visit to the State in the past 10 months. The Dalai lama was accompanied by his 11-member team and government officials to the caves.

The district administration had ensured the surrounding of Singhangarh cave and Singhadhruva hills were properly cleaned prior to the arrival of the spiritual leader. These hills are located at around 17 km from Sirpur town and house more than 15 caves. According to the Archaeological experts, Nagarjuna, who is considered the most prominent Buddhist philosophers after lord Buddha had meditated in these caves somewhere between first and second century. One of these caves is believed to be also associated with Goddess of tribals, Chandadai.

This is the second visit of the Dalai lama at Sirpur in the last 10 months. In 2013, the Dalai lama was enchanted by the lord Buddha Vaishnav, Jain and Shaiv culture and had expressed his desire to visit Sirpur again in 2014. The Tibetan spiritual leader travelled to Sirpur by road amid tight security. The troopers were deployed at every few hundred metres between Tumgaon and Sirpur. After returning from his visit to Sirpur, the Dalai lama will speak on ‘Wisdom of Compassion’ at a lecture in Pt Ravishankar University on Wednesday.

During his address on Monday, the Dalai lama had spoken about Nagarjuna’s theory of emptiness.  He had stated that a better understanding of Nagarjuna’s theory can come from studying Quantum Physics.“In Quantum Physics, you always go a level deeper. Everything is broken down to smaller particles to find an even smaller entity. Therefore, it is important to question the being of human life and look for answers,” he had stated his lecture in the town on his arrival at the conference.
