District administrations in Chhattisgarh have started imposing curbs on marriages and post-death ceremonies following a directive from Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel to check the spread of Covid-19.
On Saturday, the Surguja district administration imposed a ban on playing of DJ (Disc Jockey) during marriage, the sixth-day ceremony after a child birth and other social events.
The order states that if DJ is played in any social programme, the equipment will be seized. Fine will also be imposed.
District Collector Sanjeev Kumar Jha said in a statement that a DJ leads to crowds, increasing the possibility of spread of Covid.
Baloda Bazar collector Sunil Kumar Jain told officials not to give permission for marriages and where needed the names of 10 guests who will be permitted should be taken.
The officers were asked to set up teams to monitor the marriages.
The district is recording 600 plus positive cases. If public gathering increases, chances of more positive cases will increase.
The Chief Minister on Friday told officials to permit only 10 people to take part in weddings and 'dashagatra' programmes.
