The Chhattisgarh government is making consistent efforts to promote millet crops and boost agricultural diversification to benefit farmers, an official statement said.

The government is promoting the cultivation of millet crops because they require less water.

Earlier, most farmers predominantly grew paddy. But they are now opting for crop diversification, thanks to the farmer-friendly schemes of the government.

This year is being celebrated as the International Year of Millets to increase the production and consumption of millets.

To promote this, Mahasamund district was given a target to sow millet on 1,500 hectares.

In the Basna development block, 33 farmers planted ragi crops on a 100-acre area. As a result, they have seen significant economic growth. One of the beneficiaries is Vijayshankar Patel, a farmer from the Saraipali development block.

He cultivated ragi on a 1.80-hectare area and obtained a yield of 21.59 quintals, earning a profit of Rs 1.12 lakh.
