The Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company limited (CSPDCl) will provide temporary connections and make adequate arrangements to provide uninterrupted power supply for festivals.

Surprise inspections will be conducted and strict action will for electricity pilferage during the festival season, officials stated. Managing Director of CSPDCl Subodh Singh has issued directives to the officers to make proper arrangements to provide immediate temporary connections for Ganesh Utsav, Durga Pooja, Dussehra etc.

CSPDCl Deputy General Manager (Public Relations) Vijay Mishra said that  the department has made all necessary arrangements to meet the additional requirement of electricity during festival season. Mishra said that the field staff had been directed to provide immediate temporary connection to the Ganesh Utsav Committee after completing the formalities.

Simultaneously the Central Vigilance Team and local vigilance teams will conduct surprise inspection of these temporary connections to check any electricity theft. In case of power pilferage the supply will be stopped and penalty will be realised from the offenders.

He said that the company has made temporary connections mandatory for all celebrations to check power pilferage and mishaps. The common practice of taking connections from electricity poles and transmission lines for decoration and lighting is illegal and a crime.

All the Ganesh Utsav committees and people have been appealed to take temporary connection for electricity use. The company has asked the people not to get indulged in electricity theft for religious celebrations.

The loose joints and improper wiring for these occasions often result in mishaps and results in loss of property as well as life, said Mishra. To avoid such incidents, the committees should approach their nearest electricity offices and get temporary connection. In case of theft, the penalty will be charged at the rate of 2.5 times of the original consumption, added Mishra.
