A trooper from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was injured on Thursday when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Maoists exploded in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, police said.

The incident occurred on the Awapalli-Basaguda route where a team from the CRPF’s 168th Battalion was on a road security and area domination operation, Bijapur Superintendent of Police Kamlochan Kashyap said.

When the team was cordoning off the route near Timmapur village, Head Constable Shilachand Minj stepped on the IED connection, triggering the blast, Kashyap said.

Minj, who was injured on his legs, was shifted to the CRPF field hospital where he was stated to be out of danger.
