Court allows Soni Sori to attend husband's last rites

SR

Incarcerating in Jagdalpur Central Jail in connection with the infamous ‘Essar Cash for Maoists’ case, Soni Sori was denied interim bail to participate in her husband’s last rites by fast track court. Instead, the court asked the jail administration to send her to her village for performing traditional customs under tight security.

Notably, Soni Sori’s husband Anil Futane had died on August 2 at his native village Nakapara in Geedam block of Dantewada district due to paralytic attack. His cremation was performed at Geedam crematorium in absence of Sori. Sori’s advocate K K Dubey had filed a petition urging the court to grant her interim bail so that she could participate in last rites and perform other traditional customs.

However, officiating judge of the Fast Track Court Anita Daheriya turned down the plea on the basis that Sori’s bail application was already rejected by the state High Court. She, however, asked the jail administration to take Sori to her village on August 12, the day of performing traditional custom related to last rites, under tight security.

Notably, in the Essar 'Cash for Maoists' case Soni Sori, her nephew lingaram Kodopi, civil contractor B K lala and GM of Essar's Kirandul plant Verma were arrested for providing huge cash to Maoists allegedly for allowing Essar slurry pipeline function smoothly.  While, Verma and lala are out on bail, Sori and lingaram are still incarcerating in jail. Sori's husband Anil Futane was also lodged in Jagdalpur Jail but due to some serious ailment he was released recently but at his village he suufered a serious paralytic attack and succumbed to it on Aug1ust 2.
