Chhattisgarh Police on Friday arrested a couple for cheating four people of Rs 13.50 lakhs on the pretext of providing them jobs in the Women and Child Welfare Department in Kabirdham district in 2020.
Kabirdham Additional Superintendent of Police Manisha Thakur Rawate identified them as Abhishek Vaishnav alias Asif and his wife Rehana, residents of Korba district.
One of the victim’s family members, Shashiprabha Gandharwa (40), lodged a cheating case with the police on Thursday.
Acting on a tip, the police nabbed them from Korba district.
The couple told the police that they met Gandharwa in October 2020 in Gegda village and promised to get her and others government jobs as they claimed to have strong links with politicians and bureaucrats.
They took Rs 3.50 lakh from Ajay Gandharwa, Rs 5 lakh from Jitendra Gandharwa, Rs 3.5 lakhs from Samlu Chandrakar and Rs 1.50 lakhs from Shiv Kumari.
A court sent them to prison.
