The police claims to have gathered some crucial leads in the looting case in which unidentified armed persons broke into the house of a businessman in Fafadih locality of the city and decamped with cash and jewellery worth Rs11 lakh after beating up the family on April 19. Police teams have been sent to the neighbouring States of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Jharkhand to trace the criminals.
It may be recalled that some armed persons broke into the house of Bhawandas Ramchandani (52), a businessman residing in the densely populated Fafadih area and made away with cash, gold and valuables more than Rs11 lakhs.
About 6 to 7 masked persons carrying country made pistols and daggers had entered the house and thrashed residents. They had locked family members in bathrooms before committing the robbery, police said.
Shocked over the incident, the members of Sindhi community had called a meeting and had registered their protest before Inspector General of Police (IGP), Raipur GP Singh.
The IGP had assured them that prompt action is being taken in the case. Accordingly, he had asked Superintendent of Police Raipur OP Pal to solve the case as soon as possible. The SP had then formed four teams including the sleuths of Central Crime Branch as members.
Meanwhile, ASP (city) Pankaj Chandra told The Pioneer over phone that they have got some major leads in the case and once police parties return, only then one would be able to make any disclosure in connection with the case.
